Product Description

Product Description

Feeding is a subject which is of interest to horse-owners, but it can be confusing. The actual feed content of basic feedstuffs - oats, bran and hay - has often been badly affected by the build-up of artificial fertilizers and pesticides in the soil, thereby upsetting the natural balance of the ingredients and reducing their value as effective feedstuffs. Reputable branded feeds are usually well-balanced, but are often expensive. This book shows what feedstuffs are available, and how to make the best and most economic use of them, while paying attention to timing, presentation and palatability. The facts about feeding horses and ponies are here presented clearly, with a final "problem" section containing real-life case studies showing the dangers of incorrect feeding. The book also includes a bibliography for further reading.

First Sentence
The whole point of providing a horse with food, or letting him find it himself by grazing grass or browsing on leaves, is to give him first, the fuel and raw materials so that he can actually build and repair all the body tissues from which he is made, and also the energy or fuel to maintain that body and to live. Read the first page

Sometimes I think you need a degree in nutrition to know what to feed your horse. This book explains everything easily and clearly without the scientific babble. Every horse owner should have this book, it answers every question you could possibly have. It's the best feeding book I've come across and I refer to it regularly.
