4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction for novices, 3 Dec 2000
By A Customer
"Drawing on Life" is a lively, comprehensive guide to the works and thinking of Hogarth. It concentrates mainly on the influences his life had on his illustrations. The development and maturing of his work is broken down into convenient bite sized chucks based around his travels. It is clearly sectioned, making it easy to use. In fact the only thing letting it down, denying it the 5 stars was the way that the more interesting, original sketches were often sidelined in favour of more famous yet intrinsically less inspiring works. Well worth the price!
