5.0 out of 5 stars Speaking unspeakable truths, 6 Jan 2008

'Mission Shaped Church' has been castigated for allegedly dumbing down the future of the Anglican church. Certainly it's over reliance on the idea of plant churches, cafe churches and other 'fresh expressions' feels a little desperate in its aim to meet the needs of an increasingly secular consumerist society. What it does do well is point out in stark terms the loss of Anglican tradition within the UK. It argues well that the Church's own reticence to provide a cohesive framework has alienated people who see other faith groups growing stronger by the day. A timely kick up the backside - let's act upon it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pear shaped Mission, 25 May 2007

This book has received great acclaim. Sadly the title is misleading as only the Foreward is by Rowan Williams.
The book is the same old thing, fundamentalists seeking to manipulate, infantalise and generally dumb down. When the church begins to help people develope a mature faith in a grown-up God then we might see real growth, growth that has depth and substance.
