Product Description
Synopsis
This is a standard reference work, incorporating a general historical background, methods of map making, practical advice on collecting old maps and a list of the major map makers. Organized country by country, it refers to over 600 cartographers active between 1450 and 1850.

From the Author
Author uses own book business!
Having joint-authored this book - first published in 1983 - I frequently use it as a first source of information in my business as a map dealer and I am often surprised as to how much obscure detail we managed to pack into it. After such a long time since it's first publication I often wonder where we managed to find the details as it seems to be much more difficult to do so nowadays!
