Product Description

Product Description

Republished for the first time in unabridged form, Belzoni's travel journal recreates the magical atmosphere of Egypt in 1815 to 1819. Belzoni was the first to enter and describe monuments such as the temple at Abu Simbel, and the tomb of Seti I.

5.0 out of 5 stars Belzoni's perspective., 28 Feb 2006

(REAL NAME)
This book is a must have for those interested in the heady days of early egyptology. The illistrations highlight the travels and adventures that Belzoni undertook and compliment the narrative perfectly.Although written from Belzoni's own perspective the book shows the sometimes frantic pace in which the aquisition of ancient egyptian artifacts took place during the 19th Century.

The transportation of the head of Rameses the great is a highlight within the book and in my view is Belzoni's greatest achivement far outweighing his discovery of the temple of Abu Simbal.
