Product Description

Product Description
The blue dye indigo has been the world's most valued dyestuff for almost five millennia. This text covers in detail all aspects of this subject: historical, agricultural and botanical; chemical and technological; commercial and economic; indigo's various uses in textiles and art; and its many sociological, medicinal, folkloric connotations.

From the Author
The book is well illustrated and all reviews good so far
There are over 150 colour illustrations and 50 black and white. Comments in reviews to date include: 'This volume is thoroughly satisfying' (Crafts), 'This beautiful book surpasses all I could ever have hoped for and will, I am sure, become the classic, definitive work on indigo and its place in human history' (Journal of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers), 'All those working with indigo or merely interested in the cultural history of that dye must read this book. It is rare to find scientific writers who include their own practical experiences' (Textile Forum), 'I would highly recommend this book even if you are only slightly interested in textiles' (Needlecraft Monthly) and 'The book is very good value' (Royal Society of Chemistry newsletter)

5.0 out of 5 stars The definative work on indigo, 4 Aug 2000
I would strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject, either the general reader or the specialist textile worker. I work with indigo dye almost exclusively, and it has become my constant reference book within a very short time. A meaty, fascinating read, packed from cover to cover with invaluable information.
