I bought the book because of its title - I wanted to find out how other people approached the issues of fantasies and what they did about them, if anything and how fantasies enhanced or not, personal relationships. I also wanted to find out the nature of fantasies and where they originated - why do we fantasise? As a counsellor, I have always been interested in finding out about this aspect of human sexuality. At first glance I was a little disappointed because it seemed a gratuitous collection of sordid snippets with little body discussing the nature of the fantasies - considering it is somewhat of an 'academic' survey. However, on deeper exploration, it sheds light on the reality of what people actually think and feel about sex, sensuality and sexuality that has so long been abhorred and thus hidden as taboo by society in general. Kahr writes in an open, honest and easily accessible way that allows the lay, non-psychotherapist to explore the findings and understand various concepts without too much trouble. Overall it is an enjoyable (and certainly informative) read, if only to find that one's fantasies are indeed more amongst the 'normal' spectrum than previously imagined! This is a refreshing text that can be utilised by students and those with a general interest in finding out more about Sexual Fantasies across age, gender, sexuality and cultural realms.
