5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading, 19 Oct 2004
This is one of those few perspective-changing books that you come across. I have been interested in weight-training, cardio activities and sports nutrition for a number of years, in the hope that I will improve my fitness levels and get leaner/more muscular. Up until reading this book I depended solely on magazines such as Muscle and Fitness for information and guidelines, but finding progress to be quite slow. This book changed everything. From the outset it is easily accessible but very informative, providing effective and revealing advice. As a result I am eating more healthily and effectively as regards to my training needs, and have found my progress to have quickened considerably. Extremely useful is the section on how much of carbs, protein and fat you need to eat for different goals (weight gain, fat loss, or sports-specific needs). It is ESSENTIAL reading to anyone who cares about their health, but especially for those who take their training and/or body composition seriously. Trust me, you'll be glad you bought this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent for anyone interested in nutrition, 20 Jan 2003
By A Customer
I am a keen sports person (not professional) and was looking for a book that would tell me what I needed to eat and WHY. This does both of those jobs very well, infact at the end Anita includes some recipes and menus to try out.

The format of the book made it easy to read. I would love to memorise the book, but I can't so instead when I need to look something up, I just search for the grey boxes where questions are answered, food ideas are given and summaries are provided.

There's alot of information, but the format helps break this up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 5 Dec 2003
By A Customer
The book is well laid out, uses plain English and assumes no prior knowledge of nutrition. The sections dealing with supplements make the volume useful for sports therapists like myself who need a good general knowledge of the topic without being experts. The book is also clear and easy enough to understand that anyone interested in improving their health or sports performance can read it without resorting to the dictionary. For the more serious academic this is well researched and detailed enough to provide an introduction to sports nutrition without being too dense or laden with jargon.
