Product Description

The purpose of this text is to ensure the survival of skipper and crew in the event of their boat sinking. It features: advice on the essentials to pack into the emergency grab bag for a short or long cruise, hot or cold climate, coastal or offshore trip; flowcharts to prioritise abandon ship procedure; techniques for survival in the liferaft, short- and long-term - the why, when and how of liferaft survival; and checklists and tables.

About the Author

Frances and Michael Howorth have sailed together extensively aboard their own boat for more than 20 years, in both home and blue water cruising areas around the world. They now work together as Captain & Chief Stewardess aboard large yachts and are frequent contributors to many UK and US yachting magazines. Frances holds an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Certificate and has been sailing the high seas since the 1970s, undertaking several transatlantic crossings and many yacht delivery voyages. Michael became a professional yacht captain in the 1990s and holds a Master's Certificate for yachts up to 3000 tons. He first went to sea in the late 1960s and served aboard passenger liners as well as the British Royal Navy Reserve.

This book serves 2 purposes. It helps you prepare what you should have in your grab bag and then it provides practical advice if you find yourself needing a grab bag. So keep a copy in your bag. It contains valuable information and it essential for all boat owners venturing on the sea.

The chapters are: Being prepared, Your liferaft and its contents, your grab bag and its contents, abandoning ship, initial and subsequent actions in the liferaft, long-term survival in a liferaft, initial first aid and emergency treatment, ailments, rescue.
