5.0 out of 5 stars Want to become a cartoonist? Buy this!, 13 Mar 2004
There's not much you can say other than that this is the one book you should buy if you're thinking about becoming a pro. It contains the stuff you need to know, written by someone who shows you the mistakes he made when he began. In the past I've read several 'How to become a cartoonist' type books. THIS book is the one that contains the 'obvious' stuff that all the other books forgot! I instantly found EVERY section USEFUL. It isn't really a book that tries to teach you how to draw. If you're still a bit poo at cartooning you will be better off buying more of How To Draw Cartoons etc type book, but if you think you're nearly there or already there but need some hints, tips and some excellent cartooning common sense you won't find a better. Sections are straight to the point and are not stretched out with guff or long-winded arty-farty prose. It's an easy read and the most useful book on cartooning/illustration I've read.

By peter king (liverpool) - See all my reviews
He's only gone and done it...With the release of his new book'Cartoonists and Illustrators Trade Secrets',Robin Hall has managed to improve on his first bestselling book 'The Cartoonists Workbook'.Jampacked with invalueable info, this will become an essential addition for anyone who desires to improve their work and present themselves in a professional manner. With topics including greetings card design, computer technology(explained in a way even i could understand!)and even thought process, this book is destined to become as popular as its older brother.Who said you can't improve on perfection....Take a bow,Mr Hall, you deserve it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Secrets revealed, 6 Nov 2002
By T Blythe (Shepshed, Leics United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Robins first book 'The Cartoonist's Workbook' is a hard act to follow, but rest assured Robin has done just that in this his second book 'Trade Secrets'.
It is crammed with loads of valuable information on how to get set up as a cartoonist, dealing with business side of cartooning. Plus lots of stuff about the Internet, Book illustration, Greeting card market and going digital with your cartoon strips.

There are also some great contributions by lots of different cartoonists explaining how to deal with the various problems that may be encountered along the road to professional cartooning.
Robin's writing style is frank and realistic and leaves you in no doubt that if you really want to be a cartoonist then you can. 'Just be prepared to work very hard!
If you enjoyed Robins first book then make haste and part with your hard earned cash for this gem of a book.
