Product Description

Product Description

This is a book for everyone involved in staging a pantomime: students, teachers, schools, colleges and amateur groups. The author covers all the information needed for the production, from finding or writing a script to the last night of the show. The practical aspects such as costumes, lighting and scenery are discussed, but the book concentrates on the organization and management aspects: how to run auditions and rehearsals or plan a publicity campaign, and how to get the best results. The book contains useful diagrams and charts, which can be photocopied, and is aimed at directors, actors and backstage teams, both amateur and professional. Music, dance, children, comedy and slapstick and audience participation are all explored.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book very well related to realistic circumstances., 2 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This book by Gill Davies is good by the fact of the authors status. Gill Davies is an actual producer of community, village pantomimes. Many people who try to write books on staging pantomimes are actually top professional producers and authors who normally produce the countries finest panto. Gill Davies however is a non-professional writer/producer and this is a one off book on the subject she has a large knowledge of.

The contents of a book contrasts from the early stages of writing to the later stages of the after production party. What I liked was the references to specific details which she herself has tryed out. The book contained diagrams and photos of her own productions. It is not only informative for producers and writers of pantomimes but also for anyone involved in a pantomime.

If you are a community theatre group in need of some basic advice then this book is the perfect book for you. Gill Davies speaks to you as an equal, not as an expert, but however Gill Davies clearly has years of expierence. I am using this book to help my own production.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very informative book, 4 Sep 2004
This book covers really every aspect of staging a pantomime, from finding a script to the actual performance. For all those who cannot get hold of this out-of-print-publication, there is a new book by Gill Davies on the market, which includes most chapters with even better illustrations. Look out for "Create Your Own Stage Production" by A&C London. The new book is aimed at amateur theatre in general, so the few pages about goodies and badies in British Panto are missing, otherwise it is very similar.
