5.0 out of 5 stars Certainly the best book yet on this subject., 27 Sep 2001
There have been few books on this subject over the years but this is full of information for ecclesiologist yet written in an understandable form for the amateur enthusiast. All of Scotland's medieval cathedrals are mentioned, together with details of the C19 and C20 cathedrals of the Episcopalean and Roman Catholic faiths. There are floor plans, and a wealth of clear photographs, making this book outstanding value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Scottish Cathedrals, 30 May 2009
By S. Kingston (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This covers all Scottish cathedrals but tends to refer to them under topics, rather than spotlighting each cathedral separately which I would have preferred. However there is a chapter with an interesting general history of the cathedrals and the effect of the Scottish reformation on their fate and this is quite useful. Plenty of pictures and architectural information. But I prefer the book on the cathedrals of Scotland by Galloway which describes each cathedral in turn with lots of interesting historical detail (though I would say that Galloway's book has a few errors which is a minus). If you wanted to study one particular cathedral in depth, the Galloway book is much easier to find your way around.

Still, Richard Fawcett's book is well worth a read.
