5.0 out of 5 stars Dated, but still very good., 5 Feb 2006
By Alexander (England) - See all my reviews
The strong points of this book are its clarity, the verbal introductions to the openings, and the fact that Kasparov helped write it. The only weak point is that now (2006) the theory it contains is out of date. If you want more up to date theory you need to look at Nunn's Chess Openings. If you are looking for an introduction to chess opening theory then Batsford Chess Openings 2 will serve you well. If you need that theory to be bang up to date you probably need to look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, 30 Dec 1998
By A Customer
This is simply the best. I wouldn't be without this book. It's easy just to dip into when I want to learn a new opening, review one I haven't played for a while or I get beaten by someone playing an obscure opening that I haven't yet encountered. Buy this book now, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Chess Openings Book in one volume., 6 Jun 1999
By A Customer
I find that this book is an invaluable 'quick reference' for chess openings. As a single volume, it is unbeatable! The text at the start of each opening chapter is both concise and accurate, whilst not being overbearing for the beginner. I recommend it as a 'must' for all chess player, of all standards.

I'm surprised by all the high ratings - perhaps they are biased by the fact that Kasparov is a "co-writer"? Read more
