5.0 out of 5 stars The furniture makers bible., 23 Jan 2002
By A Customer
If you are a furniture maker and wanted to purchase one book on furniture making and the relevant techniques, this is the book to invest in. I spent five years at Buckinghamshire College studying furniture design and craftsmanship and this is the book recommended to all students.
The book covers every aspect of making furniture including materials, tools, equipment, construction, fixtures and fittings, setting out, draughtsmanship and includes examples of completed furniture designs.
When I am starting a new project and require information, on say construction or fixtures and fittings I always find an answer to my question in this book.
It is worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bible for woodworkers, 14 May 2008
Joyce is the standard text for furniture makers. I don't know a single decent designer maker out there that doesn't have a copy on their bookshelf. If you take your furniture making seriously then you'll find this an invaluable resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your second book on woodworking, 13 Mar 2009
Working with my brains most of the day for money, i decided on woodworking as my balancing hobby. My first problem was where to start in all aspects of woodworking such as tools, wood and joints. I had a book for beginners, but the projects and materials shown in there were terrible and I soon grew out of it. After buying lots of other books on specialized topics, I found this book by Joyce. Yes you feel it's age in text and drawings, but this should have been my second book. All joints, all techniques and all the construction details I will ever need are in there, and information about tools and wood. Not a book to read from front to cover, but to study a selected topic at night on how to proceed with the project at hand the next day.
