Product Description

Product Description

At a time when health scares abound, new drugs and medical treatments are continually emerging and we are forced to be evermore cautious as to the foods we eat, people are increasingly looking for alternative ways of treating and restoring their health. The healing properties of plants has long been recognised, but knowing exactly what we should be giving our families and how this 'alternative' medicine can work safely alongside modern treatments can seem rather less straightforward. David Bellamy - Britain's favourite botanist - here draws on his many years of research and teaching to give us a practical, accessible and comprehensive guide to herbalism, showing how we can all use herbs to strengthen our immune system, boost energy levels and treat conditions ranging from the common cold to digestive disorders, arthritis and heart disease. Bellamy's Herbal is an easy to follow, detailed guide to everything you need to know about herbal remedies and supplements and how they can be used to treat you and your family safely and effectively.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for all of us - and that includes you!, 8 Feb 2004

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
It should be compulsory for every man, woman and child in the Western world to read this. Not in the least preachy and based on scientific fact, here is the real unvarnished truth about what goes on in your body and how it affects and is affected by the mess we have made of the Earth.
It is written in an typically accessible Bellamy style with chapters on various parts of the body (Dem Bones, The Waterworks etc)and cuts straight through to what you need to know, like the fact that millions of house dust-mites that eat the forty thousand skin flakes that we each lose every day, keeps our beds and houses clean. Each section comes interpersed with boxes about a particular food and how it helps us function. You are what you eat has never been so true.
While the majority of us live our lives by `facts' urged on us by advertising companies and manufacurers, in ever increasing sterile surroundings, this is a welcome antidote. So much more than a herbal.

4.0 out of 5 stars informative, accessible, 15 May 2003
.
Comprehensive guide to herbal remedies available in the market, to treat a range of ailments ranging from the common cold to heart disease, as well as to boost our immune systems and energy levels.

With accompanying advice from Britain's favourite telly botanist, who has spent decades in the research of ways to harness the curative powers of "nature's dispensary". And as expected from someone who has spent as much time in writing, it is geared for the family--very digestibly written.
