Product Description

Product Description

This book aims to teach about the rewards and problems of spiritual practice, including meditation, the process of inner transformation and the integration of spiritual practice into the Western way of life. It deals with issues ranging from compassion and addiction to relationships and sexuality.

From the Publisher

Jack Kornfield was trained as a Buddhist monk in Thailand, Burma and India, and has taught meditation worldwide since 1974. He was one of the key teachers to introduce Theravada Buddhist practice to the West, hailed by Thich Nhat Hanh as ‘a wonderful storyteller and a great teacher’. This warm, inspiring and instantly accessible book is filled with practical techniques, guided meditations, stories, koans and other gems of wisdom, and illustrated by the profound – and sometimes humorous – experiences of the author. Also by Jack Kornfield and published by Rider are Buddha’s Little Instruction Book, with over 30,000 copies sold, and the irresistibly titled After the Ecstasy, the Laundry.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book with Heart, 12 Dec 1998
By A Customer
This is one of the most beautiful self-help books available. Jack Kornfield is a respected teacher of Insight Meditation and has run groups in America and Europe for many years. This book distils the essence of Insight Meditation in a way that will enable readers who wish to do so to take up a daily practice and feel supported as it matures and evolves. Jack includes wonderful inspirational storeis, I have been moved to tears by many. He also gives detailed guidance on how to deal with the difficulties of meditating and gives a realistic picture of the results you can expect. For eighteen years I have followed a different meditation practice and have used Jack's books and stories in my own teaching - this book has persuaded me to try out the technique he teaches so wonderfully. The only thing wrong with this book is that it comes to an end.
