Product Description

Product Description
Don't let them inside your head. Don't let them play their mind games with you. Because they're merciless. And they'll kill to win...The Swiss-based Institute of Global Studies seems like the kind of philanthropic body any idealistic young scientist would want to work for. But when Lew McBride gets involved with them, his life takes a horrific turn. Something terrible is happening in Adrienne Cope's life, too. Her sister has died in mysterious circumstances. The only clues about what might have happened are locked away in a psychiatrist's files. And when she investigates, she discovers that the psychiatrist, while no figment of her imagination, doesn't exit. What is it that connects Lew McBride, Adrienne Cope, the psychiatrist and the Institute together? What takes Adrienne and the psychiatrist on a terrifying chase across the USA and Europe? Why should the CIA get involved? And why does the body-count start to rise alarmingly? Trance State is the spellbinding new thriller from the author of the international bestsellers The Genesis Code and The First Horseman. Chilling in its authenticity, relentless in its page-turning pace, Trance State is a novel that will have you praying that it's only fiction.

From the Publisher
A relentlessly paced thriller in which nothing is what it seems, no one can be trusted, and nothing is secure - especially one's own memory --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good read but the characters lack depth, 29 Aug 2003
This review is from: Trance State (Paperback)
I was recommended this book by a my brother and I must say the book is a page turner right until the end.BUT THERE ARE FLAWS!The main character Duran is so bland and boring sometimes you just want to tear your hair out at how stupid he is especially near the end.Billio the private detective you'll love and you will be routing for him, but not giving the story away the author makes a big mistake. This character should have had more time in the novel.Apart from these flaws, the author though does write well and his research is extensive and it's an intresting topic that makes you think - it's a modern day Manchurian candidate. It's a good beach book that will have Case fans and others ploughing through it.Read away but don't expect too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trance State, 3 Mar 2003
This review is from: Trance State (Paperback)
Again John Case treats his readers with a brilliant and nerve wrecking novel. As in his previous books it is the style and the way he wakens his characters to life that let us forgive minor faux pas in logic or plot. Luckily he spares us of a honey-sweet epilogue as the one we had to dial with in 'The Genesis Code'.
'The Trance State' (a.k.a. 'The Syndrome') is as well researched and consist of so many twists and turns as 'The Genesis Code' and 'The First Horseman'. And again the plot reflects the greatest fears of our century. It shows how people can turn scientific knowledge and technological progress into weapons and burst all boarders of human rights, moral or ethics knows to us.
Though the first 3 books written by John Case can't be said to differ greatly in quality and a ranking is based purely on personal preferences of topic or character here is my rating:
1. The First Horseman (-best love story)
2. The Trance State (-overall good story)
3. The Genesis Code (-too far off plot, too 'sweet' ending)

1.0 out of 5 stars Good plot not so good on the storytelling.
For a start you can get a brief ieda of what a book is about by its brief summary on the dust jacket, not so here. The summary is as vague as it can possibly get. Read more
