Amazon.co.uk Review
The rat-race teaches us that the only way to prove success is to climb the career ladder, buy a flashier car and fill your big house with state of the art TVs, CD players and wardrobes full of designer clothes. But deep down we all know that having "things" isn't really the answer to all our problems, and filling our lives with the constant quest to get more, more, more so that we can prove ourselves better than, or as good as, the Jones's just creates more stress and avoids the real issues.
In Successful but Something Missing Ben Renshaw looks at the reasons why we feel we have to prove ourselves materially, and why we seem to take less care of our real needs--love, confidence, self-esteem, balance, intimacy--when in fact these are the very things that could make all the difference.
Renshaw certainly gets up close (and very personal) in this compelling book, and on occasion the truth can feel more than a little uncomfortable. He freely admits that there are no easy answers, but encourages the reader to simply take a deep breath and realise that life is a actually on your side before attempting to taking yourself to task.
The author doesn't offer easy solutions, but instead approaches an all too common problem calmly and sanely, helping the reader to get a little perspective by holding up a mirror that reflects the barriers that stop us from being truly successful. The answer, as we all know, lies within, and Successful but Something Different simply dares us to live the lives we deserve. --Susan Harrison
