Product Description

Review

The pages are jam-packed with a superb array of splendidly produced colour, and black and white photos, giving the book a distinctive arty appearl. Along with record sleeves, showbills, and shots taken from contemporary magazines, there are promotional pictures which have rarely been seen before - but which immediately evoke a delightfully unique era. This book, which affords space both to the superstars and to the lesser-known mortals, brings matters into the 21st century.' AND THE BEAT GOES ON 'The visuals are stunning, with a plethora of rarely seen or previously unpublished full page photos...a welcome publication.' RECORD COLLECTOR

Product Description

We all know what happened to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones but what about The Mindbenders, Freddie and the Dreamers and The Four Pennies? Where are they now and what do they look like? This fascinating book revisits an old Omnibus rock encyclopedia and traces the fortunes of the pop idols of 40 years ago. Contains a wealth of photographs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colourful and informative, 4 April 2005
By A Customer
This book is not a definitive encyclopedia but a brilliantly illustrated and informative guide to most of the best known British pop groups and solo artists of the 1960s. It is an essential reference book for all students of popular music from that period and there are full page colour or black and white photographs of many of the artists and smaller illustrations of record sleeves and other promotional material. This book contains over 200 pages and I found it excellent value for money.

3.0 out of 5 stars those were the times !, 14 Nov 2003
By M. Giampaolo (Italie) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A well illustrated music encyclopedia of what happened in the swinging UK in the sixties, A to Z artists from the beat to psychedelia, from Action to Zombies passing through Beatles, Stones, Floyds and so on.
A lot of forgotten names and rare colour pictures make the book
an optimum compendium in every sixties' library or record
collection.
It isn't a list of discographies, but a pictorial document of
a piece of pop/rock history with exaustive notes about every name.
Quasi excellent, but omitted one of the most important bands of
the Swingin'London: the Soft Machine. Great sin.

I have truely enjoyed the retrospective ...
..., and can recommend this book to all British music lovers.

However, Terry Rawlings did not do his homework on Tim Andrews. Somehow that part does not fit to the otherwise well researched book. It almost seems vicious? What is going on Terry?

Maybe see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Andrews_%28musician%29 to complete your research.

Apart from a rather strange reference to Tiny Tim, it is jolly good fun
