4.0 out of 5 stars a good midnight read..., 7 Mar 2002
On a recent trip out to Tower Records in London, i spotted this biography and thought twice about buying it. After reading the back cover, i wasnt impressed, but decided to get it as i am a huge DG fan.

The book is hard going, i found, documenting each stage from his first record, right up till his plans for the future. Most of what was said by David was re hashed from old interviews from ages ago and there wasn't much else. Towards the end of the book, was where i found it more interesting. A lot about other artists, Dave Matthews etc, who signed David to his american record label, also a bit about the Frames, but all in all a dissappointment to any hard core dg fan.

Some cool pictures, some insightfull information at times made up for this dull biography's lack of imagination.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average book on an exceptional star, 12 Mar 2002
I got this book for my birthday. To the average David Gray fan, like myself, it is worth having just for the *very few* bits of infomation that *aren't* in interviews that we've probably all heard or read before. That is the main problem with this book - to the casual reader it is bound to be a facinating insight into the life of the musical genius, but to the committed fan there really isn't enough original material here to satisfy. Having said that, the author has obviously put a lot of effort and research into this and he deserves credit. Previous books of his were apparently on Westlife, so what can you expect? Ultimately, however, this will be an entertaining read for the majority (myself included, but annoying in that you have to trawl extremely old quotes and interviews ad nauseum. Too much on 'White Ladder' not enough on previous albums also. Also, saying 'This Year's Love' and 'Gathering Dust' have 'cliched lyrics' is sacriledge of the highest order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed account of the singer-songwriter, 6 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This book is packed with details of the progression of David Gray's career from being ignored to being centre stage. It outlines his influences, early musical efforts, the recording process, his fellow musicians and collaborators, and the changes he underwent from being an embittered outsider to a popular icon. The book includes interviews with David, band members past and present, producers and record-industry types.
I found this book fascinating and read the whole 160 pages in three sittings.

4.0 out of 5 stars A well told story of a musical miracle!
This is the first biography of singer/songwriter David Gray. Considering that the man is in his early 30s you might think there wouldn't be a lot to write, but you'd be amazed at... Read more
