'A fabulous compilation. Paul has an unerring eye for the fascinating.' Jeremy Beadle. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

This book is essentially sick, weird and obsessively trivial - and I loved it! --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Indispensable as Halliwell's Guide..., 24 Feb 2001
By Mr. R. P. Richardson "adanaman" (Northolt, Middlesex UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Any movie buff MUST have this book on their shelves. It contains over one thousand biographies, meticulously researched and packed with little-known facts and anecdotes. Written in an entertaining style, you'll find yourself unable to put this down. It's not one of those movie reference books you might dip into occasionally - you'll find yourself hooked, turning page after page. I sat up in bed until 3am the day I got my copy, and picked it up again first thing next morning. The darker side of Hollywood is explored too and the brief descriptions at the beginning of each entry sum up the subjects beautifully. Cesar Romero's biography is typical - it begins "Gay caballero.", a reference to the fact that this Hollywood Latin Lover was a closet homosexual, as was Raymond Burr (TV's Ironside), who the book reveals was happy to be known as "Mrs Benevides" by friends, having married his male lover of that name in 1964. A riveting good read. You'll be glad you added this volume to your movie library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on films for a long time, 10 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Fade To Black is undoubtedly one of the best books that I have read for a long time. It deals with virtually every film star you can think of: details of birth, death, marriages, divorces, homes, enemies sometimes even pets! I thoroughly recommend it to anyone interested in films or in people.
