4.0 out of 5 stars Believe the title, 7 Jan 2006
By Mr. A. A. Brown "andrewbrown100" (Essex, UK) - See all my reviews

It's all in the title! This really is a book for the absolute beginner. If you have any previous experience playing either a bass or a regular guitar, then this is not the book for you. You will easily complete the book and be very disappointed with the contents.

However, if you really are an absolute beginner, then I do recommend this book to you. I think it is a good starting point, and although it will not take you very far into playing the bass, it will give you a good basis.

The instruction is fairly clear and concise, and you should have no trouble getting to grips with the material. Once you complete the lessons, you won't be a pro by any means, but you should be able to move on to more comprehensive material.

On the whole, a good book for the first few weeks/months of playing a bass (from scratch). But, as I say, if you have played a guitar before, then this book will only have limited value to you and you would be better off looking to other resources.

4 out of 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic bass book, 22 Feb 2005
By Mrs. S. C. Hughes "benjamina" (uk, birmingham) - See all my reviews

I recently brought a bass guitar with no prior knowledge at all to do with music I didn't even know how to hold the thing, however this book came to my rescue, it starts off by telling you how to hold the bass, then moves onto teaching you frets, FRETS!! yes I didn't know what they were either but his book guides you through all the important steps at an easy pace, this is one way to become a bass player, I now came read and write my own songs thanks to this book I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST!!!, 16 Mar 2002
By A Customer
I wanted a beginners bass book which was comprehensable (even to the most unmusical of people), simple, fun and something that laid down the principles. This is what I got. It was brilliant. Every beginner should have it - its the best book around.

2.0 out of 5 stars Really rather bad.
If you are "un-musical" enough to benefit from this book then you should run far away from all instruments and never be tempted to go near them again. Read more
