2.0 out of 5 stars A basic route finder adding little to perusal of OS map, 11 May 2004
I was disappointed with this book. It contains 28 walks spread over the whole area, so that, for example, there are only two on the whole of Kintyre and two on Islay. So for a week's holiday you either confine yourself to two walks or prepare yourself for some long journeys to get to the next walk!

The walks are mere route finding descriptions, with little description of what you will see or why you might want to attempt that walk, and they seem very straight forward - routes that you could work out very easily for yourself from the OS map. In other words, the book gave me nothing that I had not already seen from the local OS map.

I can understand that someone whose map reading skills are shaky, who doesn't want to do more than one walk in an area, and who is prepared to take on trust the quality of a walk, may find this book useful, hence the two (not one) stars - but for my part, the book has gone straight to Oxfam!
