Product Description

Synopsis

This absorbing biography documents the life and career of one of the biggest movie stars of the day, from his difficult and unsettled childhood, through early days on stage and in television, to his explosive success as the latest and even, perhaps, the greatest James Bond of them all. The child of a disastrous marriage and sent to live with various relatives when first his father, then his mother, left home, a shy Pierce Brosnan was also a target for bullies at school because of his Irish accent. Much later his life fell apart when, after being married for eleven years, his wife died of cancer. But he was determined to achieve the vision they had shared and be a major success in the movies. He proved himself as an actor in films like "Dante's Peak" and "The Thomas Crown Affair" and, after missing out in 1987, finally became the indisputable James Bond in 1995. Then, in 2000, after finally setting the date for his marriage to Keely Shaye-Smith, the wedding was put on hold when his son, Sean, unexpectedly suffered complications following a horrific car crash. The story of Pierce Brosnan unfolds the drama, pathos and triumphs of one of today's most likeable and successful movie celebrities now at the peak of his career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pierce Brosnan worked really hard for his success, 20 Feb 2002
By Heidrun Albrecht (Metzingen, Germany) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Pierce Brosnan (Hardcover)
"Pierce Brosnan is one of today's top movie stars, acclaimed worldwide for his contemporary portrayal of James Bond. Born in Ireland, brought up by relatives, Pierce was a shy schoolboy in London, but drama classes and theatre work in England led to television success in America as private detective Remington Steele. He made his big-screen debut in 1980 and has now starred in twenty mainstream movies.
Brosnan is an environmentalist and a dedicated supporter of The Prince's Trust. In August 2001, 120 friends and family travelled to Ireland's historic Ballintubber Abbey for the 'fairy-tale' wedding of the year when Brosnan married his long-time partner Keely Shay-Smith, an occasion which made headlines around the world.
This compelling story provides a graphic account of Pierce Brosnan's early struggle for professional recognition and his ultimate international success as a serious film actor. It also unfolds the humon sorrow and joy that has punctuated the life and times of one of the most likeable, sincere, talented and successful contemporary stars."
This is the third biography of Pierce Brosnan that I've read and I'm still not tired of it. It's always quite interesting to read how the different authors see his life. The facts of course are still the same but Peter Carrick stresses different parts of Pierce Brosnan's life than York Membery in his biography 'Pierce Brosnan: A biography'.
