Product Description

Product Description

A family is found murdered. In a cruel twist, one of the Las Piernas Police Department's own detectives is suspected of killing the only witness. When that detective disappears and a crime boss goes free, the LPPD is forever changed. The killer is brilliant. He knows how the police work and has his own ideas about justice and the way it should be delivered. Called in to investigate the wreckage of the missing detective's plane, Frank Harriman is given a set of cold cases that have suddenly become white hot. Harriman's conviction that the LPPD tagged the wrong murder suspect is not only wildly unpopular; it is also disregarded. Alone, his instincts and integrity are questioned at every turn; Harriman must race against the clock to find the real killer before hundreds of more lives are lost, including Frank's own.

4.0 out of 5 stars nervous reading, 19 Jun 2002

This review is from: Flight (Mass Market Paperback)
Usually, Jan Burke's books are about the reporter Irene Kelly. This one focusses on her husband Detective Frank Harriman instead, so Irene stay in the background. Harriman is asked to pick up a cold case in which a legendary detective's body is found whose been missing for 10 years and who is suspected of killing a witness of a murder case he was investigating. Harriman is not popular in the police department when he sets his mind to prove the dead detective was innocent. The plot is somewhat revealed early on as we get chapters from the real murderer's point of view who apparently is detective from the same department and who is doing everything he can to thwart the investigation. It is a very exciting and nervous read as Harriman tries to figure out which collegue is the bad guy. As the story goes on you feel the nerves in your body building up. Each policeman could be the bad guy so you read every word that is said about them very carefully. I found it a really good read, as usually with Burke's book. Enjoy!
