Product Description

Product Description

If you want to be a writer this is the book for you! Following the success of "An Author's Guide to Publishing", Michael Legat has now produced a truly practical guide to the craft of writing. Brimming with useful advice and tips, it warns against common pitfalls and teaches you how to adopt a professional attitude towards your work. Chapters cover such aspects of writing as the novel, short stories, non-fiction, articles, poetry, plays, radio and television scripts - even children's books. A detailed look at how to prepare a typescript, where and how to submit it and a discussion on the rewards of writing conclude this invaluable book. Whether you are a beginner or a more experienced writer, you will enjoy Michael Legat's lively anecdotes and down-to-earth approach. This is the most comprehensive and helpful guide to the business of writing that has yet been published.

About the Author

Michael Legat was born in London and educated at Whitgift School, Croydon. He joined the publicity and production departments of the Bodley Head in 1941, and apart from three years wartime service in the Navy, stayed there for nine years. In 1952 he was appointed Editorial Director of Corgi Books, following which he held the same position with Cassell & Company. Since 1978 he has been a full-time author, publisher's consultant and lecturer. He has served on the management committee of the Society of Authors, on the Literature Advisory Panel of South East Arts, and as a director of the Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society and the Copyright Licensing Agency. He is married, and lives in Horsted Keynes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece !, 20 Jul 2002
A fantastic book, all the encouragement you need to set out on that writing project, short story or novel etc( that you have been planning, but never manage to really get going with). I would recommend this book, because of the manner in which it is written. The writer personalises the book, and made me feel special(yes special). I really could not put it down, due to the sheer delight it gave me.I am a student, studying English and French A levels and have found this book to be emmensly valuble and enjoyable- definately not one to miss!!
