Product Description

Product Description
Written in the form of letters from an experienced witch to her two apprentices, solitary witchcraft is offered, not as a substitute for coven worship, but as a fulfilling lifestyle in its own right. This book provides spells for all the key festivals of the witch's calendar - describing the therapeutic powers of trancework and herbalism and outlining the Pagan approach to finding a partner. Her lyrical letters, accompanied by pen-and-ink sketches, bring the reader to an understanding of the solitary witch's lifestyle and beliefs.

About the Author
Rae Beth has been studying Pagan traditions and woman's mysteries for many years. Her interest grew when her involvement with the women's movement and her work as an astrologer and tarot consultant converged in Goddess spirituality. She became a self-initiated witch in 1978, perceiving the role of witch as a poetic symbol of women's psychic ideals, such as a reverence for the Earth. Later she also came to understand the role of the male witch, as present-day shaman and brother to the wise woman or witch priestess. Born a schoolteacher's daughter, she was once a student teacher herself, specializing in English literature. She now writes magical poetry. An active environmentalist, Rae Beth lives just outside Bath, where she enjoys country walks, and is married with two children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hedge Witch, 22 Feb 2005
By Clare "Bookaholic" (England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This is probably Rae Beth's most well known book. A book written in the form of letters to her students learning the path of hedgewitchcraft.

A lot has been said of Ms Beth in that her path of hedgewitchery is not very far removed from Wicca, this path is in some ways similar to Wicca, just not I feel as strict. This book is not a how to, it is very interesting and anyone wishing to learn more about this path will find so much beneficial from this book. Anyone new to the path will also possibly need another book that goes more in-depth, that said there is so much to learn from this book from the beautiful sabbats and the lovely meditations it is so much more than just letters written to a student.

This is a book every Solitary Witch should read, it was one of the first books I read when I discovered my path, and inspired me immensely. Rae Beth is a wonderful author and writes in a very easy to understand way. She is always very high on my recommended reading list and will continue to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best witchcraft books I have read!, 26 Feb 2003
By A Customer
This is a wonderful book both for the new & experienced witch, even if you are not a witch I think you will find this book very enjoyable.

Rae describes the rituals, self-initiation and trances you can do very thoroughly and clear, the book is written in a series of letter's and you feel as if she is writing to you, I could not put this book down it was so very enjoyable and a book I will read again.

I would especially recommend this book to a new witch or anyone deciding on what pagan path they wish to follow, I would also recommend buying the follow-up to this, 'The Hedge Witches Way'.

Brightest blessings.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book!, 29 May 2002
By A Customer
At last a book that traces Hedge Witchcraft from a true Celtic viewpoint. It deals with the Triple Goddess and the Lord of the Forest - of Great Britain and in such depths that you really begin to feel the magick from the land you live on. It is often confusing for newcomers to encounter books which deal (not always in any great detail) with the foreign Pantheons of Goddesses and Gods - but this seems in tune with your very soul. My magickal workings have become much more focussed and successful with the help of this wonderful book. Thank you Rae - I look forward to reading the as yet unpublished works
