Product Description

Product Description

This is a practical handbook about making a classical guitar. The book includes eight separate plans of instruments constructed by internationally famous guitar-makers. Part one of the book is devoted to separate chapters on each famous maker, the second part provides information about the tools, working environment and materials needed by the guitar maker while the third part comprises a step-by-step method of guitar construction, illustrated by both photographs and illustrations.

About the Author

Roy Courtnall made his first guitar under the supervision of his great-grandfather when he was twelve years old. After obtaining a BA (Hons) degree in Sculpture from London University he became more involved in making both lutes and guitars. He is now producing handmade instruments to order. Largely self-taught, he also runs several Adult Education classes in guitar and lute making. He is married and lives in Lincolnshire.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book well worth owning, 29 Oct 2002
By A Customer
I held back on buying Making Master Guitars for a while, thinking that it was too expensive. I thought I could rely on some of my older books for guitar information. Finally, I was given Making Master Guitars as a gift for my birthday, and I can only say that I wish I had bought it two years ago. What I like most is the clear way that the guitar making instructions are written - nothing is taken for granted, and this makes it relatively easy for anyone to follow the stages in making a guitar. Also of use are all the chapters on famous makers - both about their lives, and the plans of their guitars. A great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars everything you need to know to make guitars, 11 Jul 2001
By A Customer
This book is a must for anyone wanting to make spanish guitars. I have read all the others, and was amazed to find this one - the plans are very useful, and best of all are the detailed photo/drawings, giving step by step instructions. Excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making Master Guitars, 10 Jun 2005
By Geoffrey Needham (Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This wonderful book is well written by an author who really knows his subject. I have played classical guitar for many years and have wanted to build one for myself, being unlikely to ever be able to afford a real 'Master Guitar'.
Having read several other well known texts, I was finally inspired to start by studying Courtnall's book. The resulting instrument took 6 months to make and while not cosmetically perfect, is a fine sounding guitar, livelier and more playable than many I have tried in a long time.
Highly recommended
