About the Author

Audrey Howard was born in Liverpool in 1929. Before she began to write she had a variety of jobs, among them hairdresser, model, shop assistant, cleaner and civil servant. In 1981 she wrote the first of her novels when she was out of work and living in Australia. There are now more than twenty, and her fourth, The Juniper Bush, won the Boots Romantic Novel of the Year Award in 1988. She now divides her time between her childhood home, St Anne's on Sea, Lancashire, and a home in the Yorkshire Dales. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Heiress Jenna Townley is used to getting her own way. And when she meets ambitious Conal MacRae, she soon knows that this is the man she must marry, despite her father's disapproval. Their courtship is fiery and their marriage passionate. But their happiness is threatened by tragic and sinister family secrets that refuse to be buried. Is Jenna destined to repeat her mother's tragedy, or can she triumph over the past and keep the Townley legacy and the man she was meant to love?

I enjoyed this book because of the two dynamic, proud and passionate people Howard created in Conal and Jenna. The story, at times, was boring and the rest of the characters dull, but you are compelled to read it to the end for your love of the relationship between Jenna and Conal.
