The author brings the picture into focus with his examination of the successes and failures of Roosevelt's administration and his analysis of Roosevelt's influence on national politics. In addition to the politician, he looks at the private man as well.

While this work is excellent in almost every respect its outlook is slightly too unquestioningly pro-Roosevelt for a five star ranking. The only strong criticism the great man receives throughout is a rather timid question asking - if Roosevelt's actions in securing Panama did not amount to an act of 'piracy'. However, this is an unusual occurrence and a little more questioning would be welcome.

Overall, an excellent read.
