The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle, is about a groughy ladybug that does not want to share the aphids on this leaf with the friendly ladybug so he says that he will fight the other ladybug for the aphids. Then he says that the friendly ladybug is not big enough to fight, so he flies away to find an animal that is bigger to fight. It asked a yellow jacket, stag beetle, praying mantis, sparrow, lobster, skunk, boa constrictor, hyena, gorilla, rhinoceros, and an elephant. But, the grouchy ladybug said that all the animals were not big enough. Finally, the ladybug ran into a wahale and he said to the whale that it was not big enough to fight, so he flew away. Fifteen minutes later the ladybug asked the whale's flipper if it wanted and it got no answer. Fifteen minutes later the ladybug ran into the wahale's fin and asked if it wanted to fight and once again got no answer. Fifteen minutes later the ladybug ran into the whale's tail and asked if it wanted to fight and the tail gave him a slap so hard the ladybug flew over the ocean and the land. Then the ladybug ended up where he started and agreed to share the aphids with the friendly ladybug. after the aphids were gone the leaf thanked the ladybugs.

I am a third grader.

I like this book because it shows how special you are and what friends are like.

I think my cousin would like this story, because sometimes he is grouchy.

I loved this book from the very first time that I read it. I am using it for a school project for my Children's Literature class. I am using it because it is a very good quality book. It teaches kids about animals from the littlest bug to the biggest whale!

I enjoy using this book to teach/reteach the concept of telling time by the hour. Children love learning a skill when it is derived from a book. Try it-you'll see what I mean.
