5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read, excellent perspective, 13 April 2002
By A Customer
I read this book in one session on a Sunday afternoon. The skillful writing had me literally with tears rolling down my cheeks by the end of the prologue (not of laughter!) and thus I was glued. The message in the book is simple and a must for anyone who is looking to motivate their teams and increase productivity for the long term rather than short term fixes and is about looking at your own attitude as well as that of your team. If you wish to stay as one of life's lone rangers don't buy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Treating employees like human beings, 2 Oct 1999
By A Customer
Gung Ho! is a simple yet powerful presentation of three easily understood principles which saved an American factory from closure and resulted in the site receiving a White House commendation.

The three principles involve lessons from the natural world. The animals used to demonstrate the principles - squirrels, beavers and geese - should be sufficiently familiar to most readers, even if only from television, to not obscure the messages which the authors present. To me the beauty of this book - less than 200 pages in paperback - is the evident conviction conveyed in the text, supported by several references to other organisations who have successfully adiopted the Gung Ho! principles.

This is not a dry technical managerial textbook. It is rather a story of how observation of the natural world can be used to motivate human beings.

4.0 out of 5 stars A dose of not-so-common sense!, 21 Oct 1998
By A Customer
I looked forward to my lunchtime reading breaks while reading this book, as I knew I would come away feeling more energised and positive about what is possible.

This is an easy book to read, and in some ways it is a simple book, although not simplistic. The principles are timeless, and you can take practical advice from it which you can apply straightaway.

What's cool is that the story is based on real events, and its connexion with real-life people is touching. A success-story blueprint.
