From the Author
A book to help people live healthier livesWe published Mayo Clinic Family Health Book for one reason -- because we want to help people live healthier lives.
While my name appears on the cover of the book as the editor-in-chief, the author is Mayo Clinic. More than 400 Mayo physicians and other Mayo health professionals contributed to this book.
This is the Second Edition of Mayo Clinic Family Health Book. We reviewed every word of the original edition and added a new emphasis on staying well and self-help techniques. We added information and advice about current developments in medicine, nutrition, medications, medical tests, exercise and the healthcare system. We also developed an illustration section that helps people understand what happens inside the body if they experience back pain, hypertension, heart disease or breast cancer.
This book answers commonly asked questions about health at every stage of life and covers more than 1,000 diseases and illnesss.
Mayo Clinic Family Health Book is an example of Mayo's commitment to serve as a health information resource for the public and in providing information that is reliable and easy-to-understand. -- David E. Larson, M.D. Editor-in-Chief Mayo Clinic Family Health Book
