Product Description

From the Author
Wesley's thought speaks to his century and to ours.
Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, reached out to the masses of the people in 18th-century Britain with the message of the transforming power of God's love and its social implications. This message addresses many of today's issues such as human rights, poverty, women's rights, the environment and the dialogue among many faiths, and enables us to combine tolerance with conviction. Thus Wesley's interpretation of Christianity is applicable today in surprising and positive ways.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and thorough synopsis of Wesleys theology, 24 Mar 2001
By armitagefamily@ntlworld.com (Belfast, Northern Ireland) - See all my reviews
People say that Wesley was not a Theologian. This book shows that he was more than a theologian, he understood the world that he lived in and contempoary Christianity. Everything from human rights to the attainability of perfection is clearly and lucid in presentation. Even though this boook is aimed at the American market it travels well. Each chapter reads as individual essays and the conclusion points to the readers application of what Wesley meant if he was writing for the 21st Century

5.0 out of 5 stars Evocative, Compelling and Compassionate !, 26 May 2006
By Brien Comerford (Glenview, Illinois United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book reveals how profoundly spiritual and compassionate John Wesley was. He wanted men to be benevolent stewards of the earth and to be humane to animals. Wesley abhored cruelty to dogs, horses, and the mistreatment of any of God's creatures. It is too bad that the 18th Century's John WEsley had a more compassionate creed than today's religious leaders who dont care about nature, wildlife and God's plant and animate creation ! John Wesley could have changed the world if his message had resonated. Earth would be more green and pristine.
