5.0 out of 5 stars Return to Vietnam and Cambodia, 10 Sep 2005
By Thomas Koetzsch (Hong Kong) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
There have been plenty of books written on Vietnam and Cambodia. This should be one of the better ones. Tim Page has some 'blood-and-guts' stories to tell about his experiences in Vietnam and Cambodia. Now and then one wonders how he managed to come out alive. Numerous journalists were killed in Vietnam and Cambodia. The more well-known casualties (I suppose) included Sean Flynn and his companion Dana Stone, who vanished in 1970 at a Vietcong roadblock on Highway One. Apparently they were handed over to the Khmer Rouge, which was as good as a death sentence, and never heard from again. A large part of the book deals with Tim Page's personal quest to find out what happened to Sean and Dana right up to their end.
I strongly disagree with the 'boring' reviewer. Tim Page's book is definitely worthwhile reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Derailed but Distinguished, 18 Feb 2006
By Hampshire Boy "Hampshire Boy" (South Coast, England, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I read this whilst travelling through Southeast Asia last year. Having read Page's brilliant autobiography, Page By Page, I was looking forward to this. I was not disappointed. Page, a distinguished photo-journalist from the Vietnam War, is an expert on this part of the World. His war experiences, which are fascinating in themselves, give him a unique angle on both Vietnam and Cambodia. His deep knowledge and affection for both countries clearly come through in his writing. Added to this is deeply personal quest to find the graves of his two friends, probably murdered by the Khmer Rouge in 1970.
Page's narrative is colourful often littered with GI slang, but always entertaining and informative. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a different view of Southeast Asia as it is a welcome break from the long list of backpacker journals/ guides.

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring, 5 Jul 2005
I tried reading this after I got it out from the library, and despite all of my best efforts to continuewith it, I gave up after probably the middle of the second chapter. There was very little in the writing that could keep my intrest.
