Fault Lines by Natasha Cooper

In this the second Trish Maguire book, Kara Huggate, Trish's star witness in a case of alleged child abuse, is brutally raped and murdered on the eve of her court appearance.

Over the period before the trial Trish has become friendly with Kara, and when she receives a letter from Kara posted the night before her death asking her to help one Blair Collons, she feels obligated to help him in memory of Kara. That Blair Collons appears to her to be strangely obsessive and creepy makes Trish uncomfortable with the position in which she finds herself. Blair Collins, recently sacked from his position as accountant on the council is convinced that there is major corruption and conspiracy in local government.

The police investigating a killer serial rapist are not sure that this is the work of the same person.

Whilst Trish Investigating Blairs's allegations, finds herself at risk personally.

Apart from the mystery, I enjoyed both the relationship between George and Trish and the police relationships. I felt that both were explored well and I look forward to seeing how they develop in later books.

Highly recommended.
