4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Grabs you on the first page and won't let you go, 4 Jul 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bait (Mass Market Paperback)
Bait is a great book that won't let you put it down. C.J. did an awesome job at keeping you guessing who was involved on which side of the law until the very end!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Do yourself a favor! Read this book!, 31 May 1999
By A Customer
Hot dang, what a find! If the Publishing Powers That Be don't take Songer and run with her, they're fools. (And nope, no kin to the author and never met her.) This is a just a slam-dunk wonderful debut. The set-up sounded familiar: feisty ex-cop heroine, standard twisty intrigue, yadda yadda yadda. But, wow, was the payoff different! Songer's voice and outlook are so unique they blasted right off the page. It takes a chapter or so of mental whiplash to catch up with her, but then she carries you right on along for one hell of a ride. It seems like forever and a day since something really new has come along, but Songer is IT! It's the same kind of rush I got after reading Parker, O'Connell and Laurie King for the first time. You can read the blurbs and plot summaries elsewhere, but take it from this reader, Songer's debut is fast blast of fresh air. Look at it this way, I checked this book out from the library and promptly plonked down hardback-price money to own my own copy. And I'll do the same for the next book book Songer writes. It's hard to decide whether I want it to center on Meg and Joe or some new new characters. Whatever. I'm sold. Greed, bliss, anticipation...a new author to watch for.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thinking person's thriller on a very personal level., 3 Jan 1999
By A Customer
After what seems like paranoid speculation, we find that ex-cop Meg Gillis has every reason to trust herself but not others in this twist-and-turn tale of cat and mouse. We are given unique insight into how the minds of cops and ex-cops work as they follow clues to corruption and killers, all told within a very personal story. The ending will definitely surprise yet make perfect sense.
