5.0 out of 5 stars Superb account of fighter pilots in the Nam, 17 Aug 2000
By A Customer
An enthralling account of the careers of USAF, USN and USMC pilots during the VietNam war, which combines fast-paced narrative detailing tactical missions with human interest level story-telling of the highest order. A brilliant book which I look forward to reading again in years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thorough look at the life of jet pilots in Vietnam, 23 Nov 2002
By Thierry Deutsch (Luxembourg Luxembourg) - See all my reviews
Definitely one of the best books I ever read about military aviation (and I read quite a few). From the first page of the book it takes you right into the cockpit of America's top of the art jets of the Vietnam war. It draws a picture of how American fast mover pilots, participating in the Vietnam War, lived, fought and sometimes died. And though it tells the stories mainly from the view of the fighter pilots, it doesn't loose out of sight the view of their comrades-in-arms, families and enemies. But what's maybe even more important is the fact that the book explains WHY they fought and why some even became addicted to the war.

5.0 out of 5 stars the many points of view of Vietnam air war US pilots, 29 Sep 2003
By A Customer
This book depicts several pilots/copilots experiences along the Vietnam air war: different periods, different aircrafts, different personalities, different stories, different outcomes: from success to death: here it is covered even the experience of shot down fast movers imprisoned at the renowned Hanoi Hilton. Very comprehensive, very interesting: not only a diary, a biographic or historical work, but also an introspective journey into the minds of those who lived, flew, fought in those days, a book that gives the answer to even why most of them stayed there until the end (life or war)
