Product Description

Synopsis

Selections from the work of sixty-five poets, from Homer and Ovid to Frank O'Hara and John Ashberry, accompany a discussion of poetry, including meter, line division, rhyme, and poetic forms.

From the Publisher

Against the mainstream
"In an era when most critics act like conspiracy theorists, doggedly stalking the Secret Meanings or Subtle Oppressions lurking within a rhymed couplet, Koch sweetly announces that poetry is here to give us pleasure... MAKING YOUR OWN DAYS is just the book to counteract any misguided English classes, those in which students were taught either to genuflect before or gruesomely dissect the poetry of the past." Michael Dirda, Book World

"[Koch] revolutionized the teaching of poetry to children and then did the same with elderly nursing home residents. His teaching is continuous with his own poetry, and indeed springs directly from it. A poet of the highest originality...he has stretched our ideas of what it is possible to do in poetry." David Lehman, American Poetry Review --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
