5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific book, 15 Jan 2008
I've just finished reading this for the second time. It is fascinating reading on so many levels. First, there is the economic success story of an enterprising Chinese man and his multiple wives and multiple families.

Fong See and Letticie Prewitt entered into a marriage contract in California at the turn of the 20th century when marriage between Asians and other races was forbidden. They had a family of five children and became extremely successful dealers in Chinese antiques. Fong See was the shrewd entrepreneur and Ticie was the heart and brains.

This is their story and the story of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It is a very timely book for the present with all the controversy surrounding current immigration and the bias against Mexican immigrants.
