5.0 out of 5 stars strand writes like a dream, 14 Feb 2001
mark strand was a former poet laurete of the USA, and writes like a genius. this collection of his earlier work also includes the sargeantville notebook, kind of like a scrapbook of little one-line gems. strand manages to capture that half-dream trance through the apparent simplicity of his abstract style and subtle rhythm. i'm not particularly studied in poetry, but his imagination and imagery is stunning. who else could have written "keeping things whole" and "breath" and "giving myself up"? language is transport, and mark strand is one hell of a driver. don't miss this.
