5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 6 April 2002
By Trip (London, UK) - See all my reviews

This is a comprehensive and competent demonstration of C# and the .Net framework. Areas covered include the .Net Framework, an excellent section on Windows forms, Web Technologies, and Component Usage. This book is not about general waffle, the authors get straight to the work and present a lot of detailed information in an almost conversational yet highly informative manner. The Advanced C# section is a little ambitiously titled, restricting itself to the discussion of iterators and containers, and XML serialisation.
Overall its a thorough and detailed piece of work, packed with useful information presented with an easy to read style that makes the book stand out from the rest. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone using or thinking of using C#.

3.0 out of 5 stars A very readable overview, but only Beta framework, 7 May 2002
By R. Lee (Bristol, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I like the presentation in this book, and the flow of information.

As far as I've got (p191) the treatment has been good, although I'm concerned by the poor explanation of delegates compared to simpler subjects - suggests that the authors might not have it down either, and later difficult topics may also be glossed over.

My complaint is that I've gotten around to generating my forst C# program using the Hello Windows Forms example on P190, only to discover, after a certain amount of hacking around, that the book is using the Beta version of the framework. In 191 pages so far, there is nowhere that the authors actually state that they are using the Beta. So I've paid real money for a book I'll have to translate every time I use it.
