Amazon.co.uk Review
Teach Yourself Dreamweaver 4 in 24 Hours is a step-by-step tutorial for Macromedia's leading Web authoring package. It is suitable for beginners, and takes you from basic text pages through to more advanced topics such as animation and forms. The book is presented as 24 chapters or "hours", each one covering a single well-defined topic and including a quiz and exercises. The author is a Macromedia certified instructor, and her experience shows in the many practical hints and tips that sprinkle the text.
The first part of the book gets you started with a quick guide to the Dreamweaver interface and an explanation of basic pages with hyperlinks. Next come images and multimedia, including a chapter on Fireworks, Macromedia's excellent Web graphics application. Tables, frames, dynamic HTML, and Cascading Style Sheets come in the next part, followed by a guide to interactivity using Dreamweaver scripts and timelines. Other parts tackle forms, managing projects and project assets, using templates, and customising Dreamweaver.
For those new to Dreamweaver, this is a well-presented introduction that will get you started. It is not an in-depth treatment, nor does it explain much about HTML, the underlying code of Web pages. What it does offer is a clear hands-on guide to the key elements of creating Web sites with Dreamweaver. --Tim Anderson
