Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Teach Yourself Dreamweaver 4 in 24 Hours is a step-by-step tutorial for Macromedia's leading Web authoring package. It is suitable for beginners, and takes you from basic text pages through to more advanced topics such as animation and forms. The book is presented as 24 chapters or "hours", each one covering a single well-defined topic and including a quiz and exercises. The author is a Macromedia certified instructor, and her experience shows in the many practical hints and tips that sprinkle the text.

The first part of the book gets you started with a quick guide to the Dreamweaver interface and an explanation of basic pages with hyperlinks. Next come images and multimedia, including a chapter on Fireworks, Macromedia's excellent Web graphics application. Tables, frames, dynamic HTML, and Cascading Style Sheets come in the next part, followed by a guide to interactivity using Dreamweaver scripts and timelines. Other parts tackle forms, managing projects and project assets, using templates, and customising Dreamweaver.

For those new to Dreamweaver, this is a well-presented introduction that will get you started. It is not an in-depth treatment, nor does it explain much about HTML, the underlying code of Web pages. What it does offer is a clear hands-on guide to the key elements of creating Web sites with Dreamweaver. --Tim Anderson

Product Description

Sams Teach Yourself Macromedia Dreamweaver in 24 Hours shows Web developers and designers how to use Macromedia's powerful Web development tool to create sophisticated Web sites. Written by Betsy Bruce, an authorized trainer who has taught Dreamweaver to thousands of beginning students, the book does not dwell on elementary Web page authoring techniques, but focuses more on intermediate-level Web development topics like building dynamic Web sites, creating image maps and interactive forms, designing animations, setting up frames, and adding interactivity. This edition of the book has been thoroughly revised and updated to cover all the new features of the latest version of Dreamweaver.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good introduction to Dreamweaver 4, 1 Jun 2001
By A Customer
The book is easy to read, is reasonably concise (ie. the author doesn't pad-out the book with 'interesting' little anecdotes), and covers the basics. If you haven't really used dreamweaver then this will give you a good grounding. It really won't teach you anything about html/javascript though, but hand-coding is beyond the scope of the book and not what dreamweaver excels at anyway. BTW, if you were add up the time it takes to go through the book (and you stuck to the book rigidly), it would actually total about 24hrs! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful book and good value for money, 20 Mar 2001
I purchased this book to assist me in developing new features on my own web pages and to use in the classes that I teach at college. I found the book very useful and great value for money. It was easy to follow and my students have all purchased a copy to use.

4.0 out of 5 stars New to Dreamweaver, read this first., 3 Feb 2002
By A Customer
If your completley to dreamweaver this is the book to read first. It gives you all the information needed to build a site from scratch. I did find myself wanting to do things that weren't covered but this was only when I was building my third site, and there are plenty of books on the market that 'follow on' from this. Recommended.
