4.0 out of 5 stars Ever wondered why you actually need XML? Find out here!, 8 Dec 2001
This is my first review but i thought that I needed to do it for this book. I'm the type which buys lots of books but never actually seems to finish them (Got a lot of ASP Wrox books that I've never properly read all the way through). I managed to finish this book in a week (Not because it's small [it has 450 pages]) as it is such an easy read. I've been on an xml course, read articles the usual but I've never really seen the reason for using it. This book covers nearly everything you need. The first few chapters were a good refresher about what xml is and whould prove invaluable for a beginner. Then it moves onto how to use XML documents with .Net (This is all in C#) and then mix xml with data from a database. Toward the end it covers the XML capabities in SQL Server and a Chapter on Webservices (I would recommend a book focused entirely on webservices if you intend to build a proper one). Overall I loved this book and it is now a reference point whenever I need xml (And at least now I know when I should use it instead of a database). Why 4 Stars? A warning really that it might not be 100% compatible with the final release of .NET but I am sure they will post any changes on their site. Worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Now I feel ready to approach the spec., 11 April 2002
Most XML books I've picked up have either been very difficult to read, or they have a habit of just reciting specifications at you.

This book is very readable and has actually helped me achieve what I wanted, which was to understanding XML and XSLT (and related technologies) without getting bogged down in the specs.

The examples given are clearly annoted and fully explained - something which vendors samples are sometimes lacking.

You'll need to understand a bit about ASP.NET before reading the book, but for anyone who is slightly beyond 'beginner' level', it won't be a problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not easily explained comparing with Microsoft XML's docs, 11 Dec 2001
On the book's description, I couldn't find any information explaining that this book is for beginner or advanced level. As I'm a beginner to XML and I have an advanced level in ASP.NET, the book was ok until page 131. From page 134 to the end, the content is not easily explained comparing with Microsoft XML documentations for .NET framework and SQL server 2000.
