Like I say, don't expect too much from this book. It does do what it says, introduces you to Max. Don't expect in depth knowledge of the more advanced aspects of Max like the materials editor (although the basic guide in the book is good), or how to build complex IK systems and lip sink animations.

I've used quite a few rendering packages over the years, but never touched Max. This book was great for familiarizing myself with the Max interface and the Max way of how to do things.

This book is a good way of priming yourself to wade through the heap of manuals that ships with Max. The Max manuals and more hefty books will teach you all those tricks and tips, e.g. how to model your own dinosaur with skin that stretches.

This box was just what i needed.....i was starting out with max and needed to get a foot in the door. this book does exactly what it says and teaches you max in 24hrs.

This book doesn't necessarily do what it says on the front. There is no way you could follow this fully in 24 hours, but it is a good book it is clear and teaches you the basics in the program. It may not be the most inovative or exciting book but it is a good first book to get.
