1.0 out of 5 stars A Real Stinker, 29 Dec 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: SQL Unleashed (Paperback)
I spent 2 weeks trying to figure out if I was a moron or dyslexic, but I was wrong... it was just that nobody proofed this book.

I finally figured out that: 1) The book didn't match the disk. 2) The book didn't match SQL. 3) The book didn't match itself from one chapter to the next. 4) The book didn't match anything the help line (and I usually the term VERY loosely) knew. Their response was "Well, it's hard to catch all the errors."

I finally returned it for credit. This is the ONLY book I have EVER returned for errors.

1.0 out of 5 stars Badly organised, lacking detail, 13 Jul 2005
By Mr. T. Berriman "berriman_toby" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have had this book on my shelf for some time now, and I never look at it any more. When looking for information on aggregate functions I found it was difficult to find anything, the index didn't refer to the correct pages, and when I finally did find a brief description of what I was looking for it was exactly that: brief. Only one line in fact, that kind of said what the aggregate function did but gave no clues on how it should be used.
This book tries to say too much about too little, without saying anything at all, and has very tenuous structure around it.
I wouldn't recommend this book either as a reference or learning tome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent practical SQL developer's reference, 20 Jan 2000
By A Customer
Unlike a lot of publications currently on the market this book is packed with a lot of practical detail for a developer programing with SQL.

Generous space is allocated to the language itself and the author gives a succint description of the inner workings of different types database implementations providing the developer with cues on how to get the best out of their code.
