R5 was short of an authoritative development reference manual until this came along. Everything you really need is here as formulas, LotusScript, JavaScript and Java are all covered. If your bookshelf, like mine, holds this and a copy of Rob Kirkland's brilliant system administration book you've got all you need to know right there. Unreservedly recommended.

Well its a big book and for the money worth it. However, I thought this book was meant to be for a developer. Yeah sure it covers the beginners sections and how to do stuff, but it doesn't appear to me to go indepth on certain areas. I got this book because my current job role asks for Lotus Notes development (specifically web) but so far I have been frustrated as sections that I need to know more appear to have been skipped, or skimmed. Other than that it is a well written book. It doesn't want to make you fall asleep after two pages and the examples it gives are clear and concise.

Guess that this is not the book for my needs or expectations, but I believe beginners upwards would benefit from having it as a reference guide.

The sudden recent growth of XML makes this book slightly out of date. There is no denying that it's still the one for every Domino 5 programmer to have. And terrific value for over 1,200 pages. Now that RSA encryption is available for Lotus users ouside the USA, this will be a hot product.
