Product Description

Product Description

HTML 4 Unleashed, Second Edition is the definitive reference and guide to HTML, covering the final HTML 4 specification, the latest developments in closely related technologies like XML, Cascading Style Sheets, and Dynamic HTML, as well as the implementation of HTML, CSS, and XML in the latest generation of Web browsers from both Microsoft and Netscape. HTML 4 Unleashed, Second Edition assumes the reader already has a familiarity with the basic concepts of HTML and Web publishing, allowing the authors to focus on the advanced techniques and technologies that help professional-level developers create sophisticated Web sites.

From the Author

How we created the best 1,000 pages to date on HTML.
This book truly represent a one-stop source for HTML syntax and implementation--and for good reason.

When I agreed to be lead author for HTML Unleashed, I spent a lot of time reviewing other HTML titles. It quickly became apparent that no one book covered all the tags and attributes associated with HTML 3.2 and the emerging HTML 4.0. We sought to address those deficiencies in this title.

We went directly to the source (W3C) and compared their standard with what was actually implemented in the "big two" and other browsers, such as Mosaic and Lynx. The result is a practical reference that shows you how to implement accurate and effective HTML, including associated technologies, such as Dynamic HTML and Cascading Style Sheets, SGML, and It also includes some pf the most succint explanations I've ever read about understanding SGML and the Document Type Definition from coauthor Dmitry Kirsanov. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent REFERENCE book, 30 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Those reviewers that have rated this book with 1 star seem to have missed the point - this is a REFERENCE book, and an excellent one at that. If you want to learn HTML from a base of zero knowledge, don't buy this book, buy HTML for Dummies (another excellent book). If, however, you are already up to speed with HTML and wish to expand your knowledge or have a comprehensive reference for checking up on the advanced features of HTML, you will not find a better book than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you want and need to learn about HTML!, 9 Mar 1998
By A Customer
It's a great book that introduces the latest version of HTML, 4.0, then takes you to the next level. With the input of real professionals, you can design a real Webpage with frames, tables, plug-ins and everything that made Internet a great success world wide. And it even comes with a reference guide!!! Highly recommended!

1.0 out of 5 stars I expected more of it, 14 Aug 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: HTML Unleashed (Paperback)
I already had basic HTML knowledge, and I wanted to make some really excellent looking pages, so I bought this HTML Unleashed book. It had a few pages covering the basic HTML I already knew, then it went on to tell me what CSS and javascript and java was, and that was about it. I found I learnt a lot more by flicking through reading only the "hints and tips" boxes on some pages. A real waste of money.
