Product Description

Product Description

Sams Teach Yourself Linux in 24 Hours is a tutorial aimed at making the Linux beginner a more effective and productive user of the operating system. Most books in this category are more of a general reference in nature and are designed to cover Linux in general. But every Linux distribution is different--file locations can change, commands can be a little different, etc., meaning the readers of those books may not find answers specific to their installation. This book uses the effective Sams Teach Yourself format to instruct you how to: install the operating system, configure hardware, and effectively use the tools that come with the Red Hat distribution included on the CD-ROM.

From the Author

Author Comment - Teach Yourself Red Hat Linux in 24 Hours
This is one of the first books about Red Hat Linux 5.0! I use Linux every day, and wrote the book to help other Linux users quickly configure their systems and become more productive. I love Linux, and I'm a great fan of Red Hat Software's Linux distribution. In the book, I've tried to save the reader time and effort when setting up an Internet account, configuring fax or printing services, or accomplishing other tasks that can require detailed research of manual pages, FAQs, or HOWTO documents. I sincerely hope this book helps new and old members of the Linux computing community!

2.0 out of 5 stars Get any book, but not this one !, 10 Jan 2000
This book is overrated, not well written and very poor to explain things. I had read the "Learn Unix in 24h" book before I bought this book and I must say this book didnt give me anything. I have now bought the book "Red Hat Linux Bible". Buy that one instead! You wont regrate it!

1.0 out of 5 stars don't waste your time here, 10 Aug 1999
By A Customer
this book doesn't even follow what happens on your computer as you install linux when I did get it installed half of the commands listed didn't work this is for beginners? I think Mr. Ball should test his steps out before guiding others on an installation

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth Considering, 28 Jul 1999
By A Customer
"Teach Yourself Linux in 24 hours" isn't the best Linux book on the market, but it's pretty darn good.I diligently completed each of the 24 lessons and feel it paid off well enough to justify the cost. However, the book is outdated.
