4.0 out of 5 stars Seeking out the Devil's Heart, 7 Sep 2003
By J "chasingshadows" (Liverpool, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This story is a fantastic addition to the Star Trek audio file. 'The Devil's Heart' by Carmen Carter brings to the foreground Picard's passion for archeology and explores his unrelenting determination when it comes to uncovering the secrets of long-dead civilisations. With the introduction of the artifact of the title, which has travelled the galaxy, building empires and wreaking havoc as it goes (and which incidentally has close ties to another known wonder of the Star Trek universe) Picard finds even his strength of character tested to its limits.

Returning as a narrator after re-creating brilliantly the chilling atmosphere of the movie 'Star Trek: First Contact' in audio, Gates McFadden (Enterprise crew-member Dr Beverley Crusher) is again on top-form in bringing to life this story of immortality and power beyond all reckoning. The only question is...will Picard and the Enterprise crew be able to unravel the mystery of the Devil's Heart before it destroys them and everything else that stands in it's way?

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Star Trek novels to date!, 16 Aug 2003
By K. Wyatt "ssintrepid" (St. Louis, MO United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Devil's Heart, in my opinion, is clearly one of the best Star Trek novels written to date! Throughout the book, the reader is taken all over history in delightful and intriguing ways. The author truly captured Picard's spirit and his love for archaeology. This novel has everything a Star Trek fan is looking for in a book, action, intrigue, mythology and a little mystery. The author set's an extremely well thought out plot and puts it in place extraordinarily well. This is one of the few books that I've actually read a couple times. It is easy to immerse yourself in this story. In reference to the audio tape read by Gates McFadden, she truly brings the story alive. I've listened to it countless times on the highway. The only unfortunate thing about the audio tape is that it's abridged. If there's ever a Star Trek book to recommend to somebody, this is the one. If you've not read this one, pick it up in any format you can. Thank you very much to the author for this one. {ssintrepid}

4.0 out of 5 stars A true trek story with a theatrical reading, 27 April 1999
By A Customer
Well, for those who are into star trek this story is just perfect: vulcans, myths and action. For those who are not it still is due to a fantastic 'performance' by Gates McFadden. The story itself a fantastic one with some scifi violence included comes totally to life with its talented reader. It's worth listening to this audiobook wherever time allows to. And its always worth relistening.
